- "I don't have time, I'll just use Twitter…it's faster."
- "I'll do it as soon as I [fill in blank, get caught up with email, finish this project, make a phone call, clean out the cat litter box…]
- "I'll blog as soon as I come up with a brilliant idea."
- "Why bother, no one's commented in ages…"
- "I'll blog as soon as I finish up my to-do list and get my desk organized…"
- "I've got to eat first."
- "I should work out first."
The reason these are lame excuses is because you and I both know they're all lies, lies, lies. I can say this because I've got a Ph.D. in making excuses and putting off things I don't like to do.
But at some point I crossed over from a reluctant blogger to an evangelist. I think it had to do with finding out how much easier it is when you follow a few smart blogging tips…and, oh yeah, the money. When I started seeing new clients, new orders, new money, then it clicked:
Blogging = get found, get clients, get money!
I bring this up because this is a time of year when we make resolutions and commitments to do some of the things we find hardest to do.
Let me ask you this question: "What's so hard about spending 30 minutes writing content that markets your business for practically free that brings in great results?"
If you knew it would pay you in real live "moola", would that make a difference? Marketing used to be expensive, complex and something you had to hire out to professionals. Now you can do it yourself.
So I don't get it since business blogging is the smartest darned marketing tactic on the planet.
Why are so many people procrastinators when it comes to blogging? I don't get it, and I want to put a stop to it.
I have a loyal following of readers on my blog, and I know Joan Stewart has a huge following over on her Publicity Hound blog. She's invited me to team up with her and offer a business blogging class to people who procrastinate or who aren't getting the big bang for their bucks with their blogs.
It's called Time Saving Tips for Smart Business Blogging.
We'll do it Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at 4 p.m. ET, on the phone. Be there or be square.
