Do you use WordPress for your business website? Many people do. And I’d like to know if you do, how long you have used it as a website, and what your opinion of it is. Leave a comment if you’d like, since the poll only gives you a yes/no choice.
My content business, ContentforCoachesandConsultants.com, is built on a blog platform, although I don’t use it as a blog. I use it as a traditional website for my business, with product pages, etc.
I see a trend here. Many independent professionals want to be in control of their sites, without having to go through a webmaster, and without learning coding or programming.
WordPress makes it easy for anyone to update their own site. You can create pages, just like a website. It can be customized to look like a traditional website for any business, or you can get something customized specifically for your needs.
There are a multitude of talented web people available for customizing it for your needs. Once set up, you can easily publish fresh content, write sales copy, add product pages, and benefit from the facility with which WordPress works with the search engines. Smooth.
I stopped using Dreamweaver software for my websites over two years ago, and started afresh using a custom-designed WordPress platform. Together with my merchant cart, KickStartCart, it gives me everything I need to run an online business, build my marketing database, provide digital products and attract clients with content that’s optimized for search engines.
And, trust me, I’m not someone with a lot of tech skills. I didn’t grow up in the computer age. Demographically, I’m probably in the cohort of “techno-old-farts.”
Please vote, either yes or no. The results will be shared as we gather more opinions. And if you’ve got a WordPress story to share with us, tell us in the comments how you’re using it for your business, please share your url so we can come check it out!

WordPress is my preferred site-building tool, too. Ever since I re-designed my HTML-based website using WP, some years ago, I never looked back.
I love the open source concept, and most importantly, the myriad of plugins which extend and enrich the usability of my site. You have a need? There’s a good chance there’s a plugin developed for that.
I have a shopping cart, affiliate program and membership program, all running off of my WordPress-based site.

I agree, it’s like a whole new world, finally. Smart professionals can run their own show, without having to wait for a webmaster. That’s awesome that you also use WP for your affiliate & membership program! I just want a plugin that fixes dinner and washes up…;-)
The great thing about using WordPress and some of the premium themes out there, you can build anything you want. Want a website, you can get it. Want a blog, you can do that too. Want a website with a blog, we have that too.
Don’t settle for one or the other. Build a Blogsite with WordPress and a premium theme.
We’re building an online pressroom on WordPress, and I see more and more websites using it maybe as part of their websites. I think with the new additions in WordPress 3.x, more websites are going to be built with a dynamic wordpress backend.

Sue Anne – while I would agree with you to a point, I don’t believe WordPress 3.0 is what is or will drive this move. Premium themes and plugins have been and will continue to be the driving force behind WordPress being used as a content management system. People have been building what I like to call Blogsites with WordPress long before 3.0 ever came about. In fact, many of the new features in 3.0 were actually the result of the innovation of premium themes and plugins.
While the new features are certainly going to make the core of WordPress work better. Don’t think for a moment that premium themes and plugins are going to sit around and rest. I know for a fact that we at Headway Themes are going to soon be releasing our next version and it is going to take both Headway and WordPress to the next level for the DIY’er and professional designer.
Thanks, Grant, for that bit of good news. This blog is built using Headway premium theme, and I couldn’t be happier. I can hardly wait for the next version!
