You Must Write

Yes, as a business person, you must write.  You must write all the time. 

Writing doesn’t come easily to me and my writing tends to be straightforward and not really clever or fun.  I’m lucky to have a partner who is a writer and who does like to write.  And, as a business owner, I have to write all the time.

Blogging definitely helps with my writing.  But another thing helps as well.  Studying what other successful marketing people do.  I subscribe to A LOT of ezines and I get a ton of promotional email.  Rather than being annoyed by it, I embrace it. 

I study what the millionaire marketers are doing.  There’s a reason they are successful.  They write and they write a lot.  If I get a particularly effective promo email, that makes me respond, I usually save it so I can study it and employ the elements that worked.

So, the next time you find yourself cursing yet another email from us or from another successful online business person, stop and take a breath.  Are you as successful as they are?  Are you making money online?  Do you want to? 

I didn’t start this post as a "motivational" rant, but I’ve learned over 10 years of doing business on the Web, that you’ve got to be persistent; you’ve got to do what you might be uncomfortable doing (like writing a lot); and you’ve got to keep studying and implementing what other successful people are doing. 

And that means writing a lot.  It’s the only way you’re going to be successful making a living online — if that’s what you want to do.
