Writing for your online business is one of the
most important tasks you have. The style of writing is always evolving for the
Web, and it’s important to learn how to write effectively for your
business. No other marketing task will involve you as much as writing
for your business.
One of the things we teach in our blogging and online marketing classes is to know your audience and know your core message. I am student for life and have always found the best way to learn something is to teach it. So I am always learning these things over and over and each time I go a little deeper.
When I started this blog (September 4, 2004), it was to have a platform to write content for an ebook, Secrets of Successful Ezines. Since then, I discovered the power of blogs for professionals who want to get their message out to people. Blogs or ezines, blogs AND ezines – it doesn’t matter if you do one or both, as long as at least one is a blog!
In the next phase of evolving an online business, I realized the importance of interesting, relevant, keyword-rich content: articles, information products such as special reports, tips, white papers, and ebooks.
Online marketing must include other pieces of writing for the web: landing pages, sales letters,
advertorials, and of course, press releases to announce everything.
Over the past three years I’ve written about all forms of writing
online for small businesses and professionals. And I’ve learned quite a
bit. My own writing has come a long way. And it will continue to
evolve, as I continue my life’s journey as a student and a teacher.
Most likely, there will be fewer posts about writing great ezines, as
my fascination with them has diminished. I believe they are less
effective as marketing tools today. I didn’t say ineffective. I just
don’t believe that a professional with online marketing tasks to do
should spend a lot of time writing, formatting and publishing an ezine,
given open rates of 25-40%. Outsourcing an ezine, however, does make sense.
Feel free to disagree with me. Do you believe that, if you only had time to do one, a blog is a more effective way to communicate than an ezine?
The name of this blog will continue to be CoachEzines, as changing it
to something more appropriate would result in loss of links. And for
now I’ll keep the banner name of Writing Great Ezines and Blogs. I
still believe there is a place for great ezines, and when your writing
is good, people love to read your ezine.
My core message is that writing for your online business is one of the
most important task you have. The style of writing is evolving for the
Web, and it’s important to learn how to write effectively for your
business. No other marketing task will involve you as much as writing
for your business.
That is the purpose of this blog: to bring you tips for better writing
so that you can get your message out to an audience of potential fans.
When you do that, people will find you and your business, and they will
be half-way ready to become your client or customer.
