Producing expert ebooks has never been simpler, and promoting them has never been easier. Really? Yes, I did say “easier.”
Since social media has come into being, the way you promote your expert ebook is, in fact, a whole lot easier. It’s not just about promoting your ebook, it’s about promoting YOU! Yes, you are the expert, not the ebook.
In order to get your e-book in front of as many eyes as possible, you’ll need some patience, a plan and some creative ideas. Here are six tips to get you started:
1. Set Your Social Media in Motion
Just because you say you’re an expert, you have to have branded yourself as one. You should have a presence on social media and you have been active as well (if not, you’d better get moving.) If you don’t have time, hire a virtual assistant that is knowledgeable in the different platforms.
2. Set up Your Author Page on Amazon
Even if you’re working with a publishing house, make sure your own ‘house’ is in order. Yes, your Amazon house. Amazon is another social media site. You can go to Amazon Author Central to create your account. Once you have done that, you can feed your blog into your profile, add videos, books from your bibliography and reviews. Remember, it’s not about getting reviews, it’s about giving them as well. Your name will be associated with that review!
3. Don’t forget Goodreads
Did you know that Goodreads has over 1 million users on Facebook alone? That means you have access to millions of eyes that could be reading and reviewing your books! You can see what a great example of the Goodreads app is on this Facebook page.
4. Blog!
I know, more writing….. it’s what the Google gods like. You don’t have to write another chapter for every posting, just make sure it’s compelling and relevant to your area of expertise. Again, make sure you share the content on your social media sites.
5. Give Away an Excerpt
One of the best ways in which to promote your expert ebook is to give away a chapter or just an excerpt from the book. Again, avail yourself to the free applications on the various social media sites. If you use a shopping cart like KickStartCart or a list management of any kind, you (or your VA) can easily set up a page, or widget that can easily capture their information and send them a free download. Once you have done that, you’re golden!
6. Make a Video
People love YouTube. And people love to know the authors behind great content. Make a short video talking to the camera about the ways in which your e-book can help other people. Talk about the takeaways of your e-book in your video and then show a link to your e-book at the end of your video.
Share your video on your YouTube channel, with a post on Facebook, LinkedIn and tweet the link.
You can repeatedly use your video as a marketing tool by changing the teaser content you post along with the video URL. Not a video expert? Use your smartphone, go to Elance.com and hire someone to do the edits for you.
Also, check out Animoto.com. You can have a video-like production in no time at all.
Promoting your expert ebooks these days is not fast, but it is easy if you avail yourself to the tools that the internet has provided. It takes time, expertise, creativity, flexibility and patience.
Publishing a book is a dream come true for every author so if you have finally finished your book, remember there is more work to do!
