The thing to know about business blogging is that it’s a continual quest to make your blog better. One good post now and again isn’t enough; you’ve got to keep readers coming back.
Most of us don’t blog for the fun of it, we do it because we want readers coming to our website. We want people to actually read the content that we craft because we know it has value to them.
So how do we keep readers interested and coming back to your site over and over? Here are some simple ways to spark readers coming back for more:
- Answer your readers’ questions. Imagine yourself as one of your readers. What kinds of topics do they want to hear about? Then, take your answers and blog about them. Offering your readers a different perspective about topics they like to read about can keep them coming back for more.
- Keep up on your industry. Taking the time to read other blogs that are related to your topic or industry can help you to think of ideas for content that might not ordinarily be in your wheelhouse. As always, researching and teaching others about a topic is a great way to learn more about it right along with your readers.
- Include interesting and relevant links. We’ve been taught to use links for SEO, but relevant links can keep readers interested in your content. I know that I am infinitely more likely to go back to a site that leads me to other content that is interesting and helpful to me.
- Add content that isn’t writing. Yes, this might seem odd on a blog, which is writing by definition. But interactive content like videos, polls, links, and photos, can keep your readers interested. Not everyone likes to read a wall of text. Keeping it graphic and interactive can help you to bring back readers.
We all know that blogging itself isn’t difficult, particularly if you have skills as a writer. Writing interesting content will keep your readers interested, and it will keep you blogging. If you bore yourself with your blog posts, you’re boring your readers too. Make sure to consider all different types of readers when you are crafting blogs posts.
