"There is too much BS content on the web already. Don’t add to it! Make it good, and make it uber-easy to share!" Shama Hyder advises businesses who want to market on the Web to post content consistently but with quality.
She should know. Shama heads up the company After the Launch.com. This young entrepreneur and web wizard gets 80% of her business through writing Web content that only takes about 2 hours a week to write and post. I’d say that’s a pretty good investment of time and energy, (and low cost to boot.)
Shama Hyder is a dynamic professional who met with Denise and I last week in Las Vegas. She was one of the presenters at Blog World Expo 08. I asked her a few questions about content marketing. Shama has become very visible on the Web in a short period of time due to her active participation on sites like Facebook and Twitter.
She is a "young star to watch." You’ll be seeing a lot of success from Shama all over social media sites in the coming year. Here are her interview responses…
1. Tell us what your profession is, and who your typical clients are.
I am an online marketing professional. I run an online marketing firm based out of Dallas, Texas. Our clients are successful independent professionals and professional service firms-basically companies that sell a service rather than a product.
Online marketing for them cannot be pushy or dramatic. They care about their reputation!
2. What marketing tools do you use on the Web?
eZine, online marketing blog, Twitter, Facebook
3. What kinds of content do you write or use to market your business?
Lots of how-to’s, online marketing tips, personal lessons learned.
4. What sources, besides your own, do you use to find content?
Twitter- always great stuff there! Google alerts for industry specific terms. The news- current events.
5. How much of yourself, your personality, your own experiences do you include?
As long as it’s related to my business, I talk about it. I am not huge on sharing too much of my personal life on the blog. I don’t want it cluttered. I like to keep it free of pictures of my puppy, stories about my family, etc. I put up all that on Facebook.
If someone WANTS to connect with me on that level, they certainly can. I just think of the blog as my service.
6. What kinds of results do you see from your online content? And which media (ezine, blog, articles, etc.) bring best results?
80% of our clients come to us from the web. I believe blogging and social media are two top techniques!
7. How much time do you spend daily writing or posting content on your blogs or sites?
2 hours a week.
8. What advice would you give to others in your profession about using content for marketing?
Do it, but do it consistently and with quality. If you can’t do it, hire someone else to do it (you can talk about your new service here Patsi). There is too much BS content on the web already. Don’t add to it! Make it good, and make it uber-easy to share!
