There’s an excellent article published by Dr. Ralph Wilson of Web Marketing Today:
How Do E-Mail Newsletters Compare to Blogs?
The people we work with on their online marketing plans ask us this question all the time. Dr. Wilson offers a comprehensive review of the differences, however, he apparently doesn’t know about email subscription services that are used for delivering blog content to subscribers.
Blog updates can be delivered via email and a subscriber list can be built up that is a valuable resource for marketing. Both Feedburner and Feedblitz services offer this email option.
The biggest difference between blog and e-mail newsletter approaches to reaching subscribers is the e-mail subscriber list. E-mail newsletter publishers have an actual list of e-mail addresses — and often names and locations — of their subscribers, while bloggers have no tangible list at all.
This simply isn’t true and is misleading to those people new to blogging.
We use Feedblitz – you can see the subscriber form on the upper left of this blog – and it’s excellent. We can access the list of subscribers any time and send announcements and even use it to distribute an ezine if we wish.
Readers can stay updated without having to go web searching for their favorite blogs.
