What's the big obvious difference between a visitor to your website 10 years ago and one today? Probably not much in the sense that both are looking for information that can help them and their problems.
Only today, visitors are more web savvy and if they don't find what they need right away, if there's not something "in it for them," something that is obvious and easy, they're gone.
So how do you capture visitors' attention immediately with something that is clearly beneficial to them? I'm thinking a digital download in exchange for an email address, of course. And I'm thinking something that puts the focus on them and their situation… and I'm thinking about a tool that will engage them and get them to think…
Bingo, you guessed right! Ask them to take a quick survey or quiz that gives them answers. But it has to be done right. And it has to be fast, otherwise nobody's going to take time to fill it out.
When's the last time you surveyed your readers and prospects and clients? The last time I did a survey was a couple of years ago. I used a mix of yes/no answers, with ratings on a scale of 1 to 5, and open-ended questions.
Oh boy, was that ever a mess to wade through and make sense of the answers! Plus, the demographics were so varied and all over the map, it rendered the results practically meaningless. But it did give me some great blog articles.
There's a right way and a wrong way to do surveys and quizzes, and even with a Ph.D. and a background in statistics, when it comes to online surveys, you can end up with meaningless results.
Unless, of course, you learn to simplify and organize it with the help of an expert. That's why I've asked Dr. Jeanne Hurlbert, of MySurveyExpert.com to teach us on a Webinar:
Wednesday, March 17 at 3 p.m. ET.
How to Use Surveys to Attract, Sell & Profit
When you register for this webinar, you'll get a lot of great tips on how to do a survey the right way, plus Jeanne will show you a system that will help you do it professionally without going back to graduate school!
I met Jeanne when she was on a webinar with Joanne Stewart for a product they have called MySocialMediaRX.com. This is a unique social media teaching tool delivered through a survey, a really interesting way to train people. (Ask me if you want to know more about this.)
I recognized that she had a ton of expertise. I hired her to do my own Content Markting Survey (you can take it here: Content Marketing Survey.)
Everyone should learn to create and use surveys and quizzes if you want to stay in touch with what your people want.
Also, the new FTC rulings about using client testimonials on blogs and social media make it a requirement to report what average results are. You can't do this if you don't know and a survey is the best way to find out.

Please note: I fully endorse and support Jeanne and her products and services AND I am an affiliate. I have used two of her products myself, for which I paid full fare. I wouldn't endorse her products and services if I wasn't 100% convinced of the quality and value. I know from my own personal experiences.
In fact, here's what I told Jeanne about the Content Marketing Survey she did for me:
“Creating a personalized quiz for my blog readers is the smartest content marketing tool I've used yet. Jeanne Hurlbert and her team took my notes and turned them into a powerful quiz that teaches and, at the same time, clarifies what readers need to know next when it comes to content marketing.
"Jeanne's survey techniques are the finest: a professional quiz acts as a powerful lead generator while starting a relationship with prospects. The survey acts as an 'engagement funnel' leading curious readers to want to learn more, and get more involved with my services. I couldn't be happier.”
